Last night on Channel 1 Russia, "Ice and Fire" contenders showed the audience their skills in modern dance. Dancing their way through the second week of the TV show,
Ekaterina Vilkova and Maxim Shabalin,
performed a very passionate and sensual floor routine to the notes of
"Be Italian", from the soundtrack of "Nine", on a sand-covered dance
floor. This is what Ilya Averbukh had to say about it on the show's
official website:
"For the shooting of Katya Vilkova and Maxim Shabalin's performance we had 50 bags of sand brought especially on the set and quickly emptied on the dance floor. Unfortunately, during rehearsal we could only fill with a modest quantity of sand a small two square metres area, therefore Katya and Maxim performed in a very hard situation. The sand behaved in an unpredicted way: it poured onto the unprepared surface and where the layer was thinner it got slippery and the guys couldn't control their feet. As they admitted later "All we could do was hang on by our teeth!" Nevertheless, as far as the interpretation, this small inconvenience worked as an advantage."
Ekaterina and
Maxim placed 5th on the night, with a total score of 11.90. We are
looking forward to the duo's debut on the ice, Maxim's more familiar
element. The first round of the ice competition will air next
Sunday.
Best of luck to Maxim and Ekaterina!
