Valentin Piseev talks about Maxim Shabalin's health
| Source: http://www.sovsport.ru/news/text-item/331926 SHABALIN HAS BOUGHT A BICYCLE --Well, our future in the Men's field has suddenly become brighter. What about other disciplines? VP: Well, of course in Vancouver we will fight for a gold medal in ice dancing. It was very good that Domnina and Shabalin won the Worlds in LA. The competition was crucial for them. Had they failed there, it would have been very difficult to regain their position, especially in the eye of the judges. --Were you against or for their move to Linichuck? VP: I've always supported them. Natalia Linichuck had wanted them for a long time! When she started to train them she said that she never saw such talented skaters. She said that had they gone to her earlier, and if they hadn't been plagued with so many injuries, they would have no equals by now. --What was the cause of the unsuccesful performance from Khokhlova and Novitski in LA? VP: Jana and Sergei were in top form at the Europeans. They went there to win and they won. They were the best there. Then they overdid it with the training, and by the time they arrived in LA they were not at the peak of their form anymore. Psychology also played a big role for them at the competition. Many people are trying to look for a conspiracy behind that result: why one of our couples came first and the other one only sixth. There was no conspiracy behind that result, I can assure you. --Does that mean that we don't have a first and a second couple, that they are equal? VP: Yes! We have two couples who are able to achieve top placements, and they both have the same rights. In the future K/N's coaches will have to work so that their athletes are at their peak at the Olympic Games. --Any news about Maxim Shabalin's health? VP: Maxim is currently still in Germany to complete his medical treatment. After learning it the hard way, we decided not to force it by starting preparation for the new season too early. When he recovers completely then training with Oksana will start. In the meantime I know that under doctors' advcice Max got a bicycle and he's using it to strengthen his muscles and ligaments by riding it in the streets. --What about Oksana? VP: She trained in Odintsovo by herself for a week, and now she is enjoying some rest with Roman Kostomarov. In about a week, she will fly back to the US with Maxim to start training for the new season. | |
