TODAY'S EVENTS - FIGURE SKATING
GRAND PRIX MOSCOW EVENT STARTS TODAY «ROSTELECOM CUP»
All the Russian main medal contenders for Vancouver 2010 were scheduled to compete
at the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow: Evgeni Plushenko, pair Yuko Kawaguti
and Alexander Smirnov, as well as ice dancers Oksana Domnina and Maxim
Shabalin. Unfortunately the latter had to withdraw upon medical advice. Our correspondent contacted Oksana Domnina to find out about the skaters' future plans.
ALONE IN ODINTSOVO
— Окsana, once again you have to train alone…
— Alone, and what`s more in Odintsovo, - laughs the reigning world champion - they just don't want me to relax! As a matter of fact, I am very grateful to Odintsovo and the Moscow Region for providing support in training time and and medical treatment when needed.
— Talking about medical treatment. How is Maxim doing?
—
Due to a slight aggravation of his previous injury he is now undergoing
medical procedures. The doctors felt he needed some medical treatment
and suggested to avoid overload on his knee for a short period. So we
had to sacrifice the Rostelecom Moscow competition, in order to compete
successfully in the other upcoming events.
.
— Are you going to come over for the Russian Nationals in December?
—
Absolutely, it's necessary! We will compete at the Nationals and at the
Euros in Tallinn. After all we need some competitive practice! By the
end of this week we'll be flying back to the US to resume training.
.
— Are you going to watch the competition to see your rivals?
— Yes, I will be there for sure. Look for me in the audience.
— Who do you root for?
— For Katya Ryazanova and Ilia Tkachenko. They are working with our coach, former coach to be precise, Aleksei Gorshkov. He invested so much time in us, that it's only natural that we wish his team to be successful.
«TRAINING WITH ACROBATS»
— Tell us about training in the USA?
— I arrived in the US in June. At the time Maxim was still undergoing rehabilitation in Germany and came to the USA only in early July. We started training for a minimum of two hours a day with Natalia Linichuk, and one hour with Gennadi Karponossov. Then one hour with a choreographer. We worked a lot on the spins and lifts. Nikulin Circus's acrobat Sergey Grechushkin came to work with us from Moscow.
— You kept your programs secret, and they were revealed only very recently. Your Original Dance will be «Aboriginal». What does it mean?
— It's a dance of the Australian natives - says Oksana burring her "r" in the funniest way.
— It sounds very unusual, I wonder how it looks…
— Hard to explain. It will be a surprise for you as it's been for us. By the way, for this dance we will have appropriate Aboriginal costumes and music. It's got to be seen. Watch us at Nationals is St. Petersbourg, then we'll talk about it.
— Good! Now let's talk about your Free Dance from the movie "Requiem for a Dream". Aren't you worried that Italy's Cappellini/La Notte's wonderful dance is on the same music?
— No, not really. We have just one minute from Requiem for a Dream in our program, the rest is from another movie.
— Which movie?
— I don't want to talk about it now. Only a few people know, and mostly we don't want people to rush and watch the movie to compare it to our dance, since it has no relation to either of the movies: we just used the music to build our own story.
